Know the Keys to Success

Be Organized:

1. Keep copies of all your loan documents and correspondence in one place - a folder or large envelope will help you. Staying organized will help you avoid confusion or problems later on.

2. To keep track of your loans, check out www.nslds.ed.gov. This site will provide information identifying the holder(s) of most of your federal loans.

3. Know your Borrower Rights & Responsibilities.

Know Who You Owe:

1. The loan amount and terms of each loan.

2. The name, address, and telephone number of the holder of each loan. Visit www.nslds.ed.gov to locate all your federal student loans.  If you are unsure of all of your private loans, ask your Financial Aid Office for assistance.

3. The payment amount and due date for each loan.

Stay in Touch:

If you need to change your address, phone number, name, enrollment status or apply for a deferment or forbearance, be sure to notify your loan servicers.

Remember to Document:

Make a habit of documenting any calls between you and your school, lender or servicer, and guaranty agency. If a problem arises, notes may help to clarify the situation.
